4 | Promises of God | Your Steps are Ordered

Growing up in a Southern Baptist church my mom would always sing this song called “Order My Steps”. She would sing it literally all the time (hey mom) and as a child, I remember thinking “wow, mom really likes this song…” Some of the words are:

Order my steps in Your word dear Lord
Lead me, guide me everyday
Send Your anointing, Father I pray;
Order my steps in Your word
Please, order my steps in Your word (more)

The words, while beautiful, didn’t really mean much to me as a child or during early adulthood. I mean I wanted what God wanted for me because his ways are higher but I didn’t really connect with the lyrics in a deep way. However, as you get older and/or experience the real hurts that can come along with adult life…words of songs that you’ve known your whole life begin to take on new meaning. The beautiful thing is that God has promised us that if we trust in him with our whole hearts and acknowledge him in all our ways, he will make our paths straight…he will indeed order our steps.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. – Proverbs 3: 5-6 (NIV)
